A sample arrives with someone else's room baked in. Reverb removal is a range decision, not a whole file render, and it does not need the cloud.
Reverb is not a frequency band. It is your source arriving again and again, delayed and filtered by whatever was in the room, which is why trying to fix a roomy take with an equaliser gives you a thinner take in the same room. Removing it means separating the repeats from the original, and that is a different kind of job.
Before you treat anything, find out where the problem actually is. On a vocal cut in a bad space, the tails usually cluster at the ends of phrases, ringing into the gaps, rather than sitting under the words. On a sampled loop the room is often continuous, because it was printed into the file long before you heard it.
That difference decides the whole approach. A take with room in the gaps needs a few small treatments in the right places. A file with room printed through it needs one decision applied to the whole thing.
Play the part through and mark where the tail is a problem and where it is just the sound of a voice in a space. Those are not the same thing, and treating the second one is how a take ends up sounding like it was recorded in a vacuum.
Most takes need three or four small treatments rather than one blanket pass. Everything you leave alone keeps its natural body, and the parts you do treat can be pushed harder, because you are no longer damaging the rest of the take to get there.
A vocal with every trace of space stripped reads as unnaturally close, and the usual reaction is to add a new reverb on top, which puts you back where you started with an extra generation of processing. Leaving a measured amount of the original room in almost always sits better.
A flip is going to be pitched, layered and processed again under drums. A trace of leftover room that would be fine on a lead vocal smears once all of that happens on top of it. This is the case where full removal is often the correct answer.
If you can audition the difference on its own, do. Hearing the source's own tone in what is being taken away means the process has gone past the room and started eating the take.
The common answer to this problem is a web tool: upload the file, wait, download the result. That is a real workflow and sometimes the fastest one, but it is worth naming what it costs. An unreleased vocal leaves your machine, a round trip replaces a control you could have turned, and what comes back is whatever the service decided rather than an amount you chose.
Processing on your own machine is slower to set up and faster to iterate. It also keeps the file inside the session, which matters more than it sounds when the take belongs to somebody who has not released it yet.
Taking a room out takes high frequency energy with it, so a cleaned vocal usually comes back darker than the source. The reflex is to reach for something bright, and the reflex is right, but only after the other half of the problem is handled: the room was also masking sibilance and upper mid glare, and both are now uncovered.
Work in that order. Control the harshness that has appeared, then put the brightness back, then deal with low mid boxiness only if it is actually there. Adding air first makes the sibilance louder and you spend the rest of the session fighting your own move.
